Knagur Green: Due to no response from the CO after the request to maintain or replace the cache, I am archiving it to, stop it showing on the listings and/or to create place for the geocaching community.

The Geocache Maintenance guideline explains a CO's responsibility towards checking and maintaining the cache when problems are reported.

Geocache Description:

The cache is hidden beside Phaneromeni church in Larnaca.

Phaneromeni Church

A small elegant church of the early 20th century devoted to the Virgin Mary on Phaneromeni Avenue, which contains a large selection of icons. The present structure has replaced a medieval church on the same spot. Narrow stone steps lead down to the underground chapel of Ayia Phaneromeni, which is a rock cavern with two chambers. The structure suggests that it was once a pagan tomb, possibly dating back to Phoenician times. The place is credited with various magical properties: thus those who suffer from headaches or other illnesses walk three times round it and leave a piece of clothing or a tuft of their hair on the grill in front of the south window. It is also much frequented by girls whose lovers are overseas, who come here to pray for their safety.

Today a larger Church is built near the older to serve the expanding community of the parish.

The nearby gardens also contain a children’s play area.

The cache contains only a log sheet, so please bring a pen or pencil with you.
