Geocache Description:

Cache is located at the Goleta Valley Community Center in downtown Goleta. Cache is log only with no room for other items. Please bring your own pen/pencil to sign.

The Goleta Valley Community Center lies in the heart of Goleta at 5679 Hollister Avenue at what was formerly the Goleta Union School. The School was completed in 1927, for $100,000! It served as an elementary school in the Goleta Union School District until 1976. At that time the School District decided to close the school rather than retrofit it to meet stringent State earthquake standards. Rather than allow the beautiful structure to be razed or sold, local activists and two prominent government officials led a drive to save the historic building for use as a Community Center. In 1977, the County signed a 10-year lease with the School District, to renovate the property and the Goleta Valley Community Center was born. I think this will be a quick park and grab, but please let me know if I have rated it properly. There will often be muggles not too far away, so be stealthy. People are having trouble opening it: You have to push something on the flat side. The title and cache container are a play on a movie that was popular in the late 90's. Congratulations to 1XL-on-XR650L for his First FTF!!
