Geocache Description:

This cache is located in 4 Dances Natural area. Please observe park hours. This buckskin pouch is located in a larger exterior container.

During the 1800's and early 1900's many pioneers carried a leather pouch for their personal valuables. One might have found a couple of the old "cart wheel" silver dollars, a few nuggets of gold or a Confederate States of America five dollar bill or just the makings for a good chaw of "tabakkie".

Many of the Native Americans especially the Cherokees and the Navajos as well as other plains Indians made these fine leather pouches and bags. These native american pouches were specifically designed in size and shape and decorated to indicate what was inside of them. These pouches were often beaded, quilled or painted to reflect a tribal design. These Native American pouches were often designed to contain specific items; such as tobacco or a sacred medicine bag. Often they were made for regalia for children or a fiance. (*excerpts from Native Languages of Americas, American Indian bags).

The originol contents of the buckskin pouch include: An arrow head, a 2000 Sacajawea buck, a set of kokopelli ear rings (God of Music) for a lady. A good medicine pouch, two “1936" buffalo head nickel & a “2005" buffalo nickel.

A WORD of WARNING: There is a lot of under brush and fallen limbs in the area of the cache. If you hunt at night be careful you don't trip. As always be watchful for snakes... the ticks come for free.

There is both an FTF and STF prize. Please try to trade with "frontier period" items. So saddle up the geo-horse power and head out to 4 dances.

Happy hunting. Arliecon ~ Ron
