Geocache Description:

This 3-stage multi-cache will introduce you to Dippikill, a private 850 acre wilderness retreat facility owned by the Student Association of the State University of New York at Albany. Day use until sundown is free and open to the public. You are required to sign-in at the Office, where trail maps are available.

After signing-in, drive up Dippikill Road to the main parking lot. Begin your walk across the street at the Bathhouse. You will follow the Ridge Trail from Dippikill Road to the summit of Dippikill Mountain, an elevation change of approximately 500 feet. From 2 different locations at the summit you will enjoy views of the Eastern Adirondacks, the Hudson River, and the Green Mountains of Vermont. From the final cache, you can backtrack, or (recommended) continue in a loop down from the summit and along a logging road (Valley Trail) to Dippikill Pond. The trail continues on both the East and West sides of the Pond (your choice) and then returns to Dippikill Road. The roundtrip takes about 2-3 hours.

Since 1956 Dippikill’s mission has been to keep the area pristine, limit development and offer visitors a glimpse of nature’s beauty. The cabins and campsites at Dippikill are open to reservations from University at Albany undergraduates and University at Albany affiliates (graduate students, alumni, faculty and staff). More information, including driving directions, is available at (visit link)
