Geocache Description:

This is a straightforward hide on the top of a mountain but obviously a walk is needed to reach it.
This cache is an offspring of The Mother Cache (GC15RYZ) which was placed by Team Marzipan in September '07. The Mother Cache has had many daughters and this cache was the second to be taken.

Gallt y Wenallt is 619m (2131ft) high and is next to Y Lliwedd at the end of the Snowdon Horseshoe. Its name roughly translates as 'The Slope of the Pale Height' and the summit provides wonderful 360° views.

There are a number of possible routes up but no footpath directly to the top. You can walk from Pen y Pass up the Miner's Track and then head south across Cwm Dyli or head east from Lliwedd Bach as an addition to the Snowdon Horseshoe. Both of these routes require good navigation skills across open hillside.

The route we would recommend, and probably the easiest to follow, is to start on the Watkin Path up Snowdon and then turn off at N53°02.655 W004°03.396 and follow the path to the old mine where it ends. From there cross the stream and follow the stone wall until you reach a stile over a fence. Climb this and follow the fence uphill until you reach a gate. Once again climb over and then head straight up to the summit.

This route takes you through beautiful woodland, past waterfalls and over streams to old mine workings. The views and scenery are fantastic all the way and, because this is a little climbed mountain, you are unlikely to see anyone once you leave the Watkin Path

Please be aware that this cache is within a Site of Special Scientific Interest (SSSI) and we have been asked by the CCW to advise that cachers stick to footpaths and cause as little damage as possible by not disturbing rock, vegetation or fauna.

Remember too that this cache is in mountainous terrain which can be dangerous, especially when the weather changes, so please be suitably prepared. Sorry to state the obvious but make sure you have and know how to use a map and compass and carry waterproofs, food, water etc. You don't want a lift from the mountain rescue!

CONGRATULATIONS TO LOSTNWET ON FTF
