Geocache Description:

I’ve been wondering if there’s a way to remove the clutter, particularly the multitude of wires and cables that run to and from my laptop. So I did a little research and here’s what I found.

I surfed through Wikipedia (my No. 1 Geocaching resource for puzzle solving) to see what I could find. Here’s a brief excerpt from that treasured website.

“Bluetooth is a wireless protocol utilizing short-range communications technology facilitating both voice and data transmissions over short distances from fixed and/or mobile devices, creating wireless personal area networks…………..

…………..Bluetooth provides a way to connect and exchange information between devices such as mobile phones, telephones, laptops, personal computers, printers, GPS receivers, digital cameras, and video game consoles over a secure, globally unlicensed Industrial, Scientific, and Medical (ISM) 2.4 GHz short-range radio frequency bandwidth.”

This sounded like it could help streamline my workspace and I was curious if others had travelled this path before me. I’ve been pleased with the GPS equipment I bought from Garmin, so I called their tech support number. I got connected to this guy in Blueport, AZ named Mark (at least it wasn’t overseas to a non-english speaking rep.). He said that Garmin had done some benchmark testing of bluetooth equipment, but they didn’t feel comfortable recommending any brand names.

So I’m left to my own devices to ferret out what equipment to buy to create wireless connections. If you find a local bluetooth distributor, perhaps they can provide just what’s needed to fulfill your caching experience.
