Geocache Description:

Lake Wabaunsee is nestled in a beautiful section of the Flint Hills, five miles West of Eskridge on Kansas highway 99. The lake is fed from 13 cold water springs and four blue stem grass drainage branches and forms the South branch of Mill Creek.

The lake is owned by the city of Eskridge. Construction began in 1933 by the Kansas Emergency Relief Corporation. Workers were paid 90 cents per week and given room, board and clothing. The project taken over by the Federal Works Progress Administration in 1936 and completed in 1937.

In 1940, the National Youth Administration opened a mechanical training school at the lake for young men. When WWII began, the NYA project was discontinued and the lake area was used by the Ninth Armored Division as a traning facility for water maneuvers.

In 1942 the area was used by the Wabaunsee County Producers Association to house several hundred German prisioners of war. These prisioners were employed by farmers in the area. Several bus loads of prisoners were taken to Topeka and surrounding areas for work each day and returned at night.

After WWII, the area became more of a recreation area. The city of Eskridge provided entertainment facilities including swimming, boating, skiing, fishing camping etc. Today, it has become a permanent home to some 70 year-around residents and over 500 seasonal and week-end residents.

This cache sits near the spillway where Lake Wabaunsee ends and Mill Creek begins. It is a small clear rubbermaid type container. You do not need to get wet to find this cache. The area around the cache provides hiking and photo opportunities. Watershoes are recommended for the hiking.

The hint is a spoiler.
