Headed to Jacks Peak County Park for a BBQ? The place to go is East Picnic Area--the only grills in the park. East Picnic Area is also home to several trailheads and within spitting distance of many others. Add in a permanent restroom facility and you have the entire package! And then there's the view... Anxious to see more of that peek-a-boo western view, I wandered off-trail into a clearing and was surprised to find a shadow of a path--others must also have been trying to get just a little closer to the view action. As I walked the path, I became aware of the "spring" in the forest floor--every hollow footstep took on the bounce of a mini-trampoline. In the area just downhill from the cache, this forest "effect" is especially pronounced. Try it yourself! The container is a clear plastic Lock & Lock box filled with trade items, and a log book. The original pen went AWOL, so BYOP. At Jacks Peak County Park, day use hours vary. When I visited, the posted hours were 11:00 a.m.-7:00 p.m. Although free parking is available down the hill at the overlook, paying the vehicle use fee will allow you to park very near the trailheads.
