Greetings,

It has been a while since I first looked at this cache. I can't find any recent responses about maintaining this cache so for the time being it will be archived and removed from the active cache listings. We are no longer leaving caches stay disabled for extended periods of time.

Groundspeak and the geocaching community appreciate your contributions to geocaching and I hope to see this cache back in operation soon.

If you can get it back up and running in the next week or so contact me to get it re-listed. Otherwise plan to move it slightly and set up a new cache page.

[green]Most problems can be solved with good communication so reply back to the reviewer and we will do everything possible within the guidelines to get your cache published. It is best to give me as much information as possible instead of saying nothing at all. This will speed up the process and we can get your cache published. [/green]

Geocache Description:

Weston is a town rich in American history. Once a booming river town, steamboats stopped here regularly until the Missouri River changed its course. This particular location was established in 1842, and we think an ideal spot for a commemorative cache.

Placed by permission. And although not inside a business, please limit your search between 6am-midnight.

On a trip this past weekend to the bootheel of Missouri, I chatted on the phone with the byonke’s who were also on the road; they had just finished the Iowa Delorme Challenge – their FOURTH Delorme! I asked Brian about the number of finds they have at the moment, he said he didn’t know, and that “it’s not about the numbers”.

As it turns out, they are only several geocaches away from their 5000th find!! They are the first in Kansas City to achieve this goal – and this cache is placed to recognize this achievement.

We met the byonke team over three years ago when we first started geocaching. As you might expect, these world-travelers are quite the adventuresome couple. Brian’s a wild man. I remember one particular cache where blulady and I held on for dear life, becoming airborne, as he transported us to a cache in the middle of the lake in his speedboat. This Nebraska farm boy has plowed through a snowbank in his SUV to find a 1/1 cache. I’ve never seen him turn down a cache, nor give up an opportunity to tease me about my caching. He’s the guy who came up with the idea of putting a cache in the middle of the Kaw River... you get the picture. But he has a serious side too; one of his current projects is teaching a ‘Geocaching 101’ class series for the Mid-continent Public Library.

Likewise, Carlin is an energetic, skilled, and indispensible half of this record-breaking geocaching team. She’s amazing – I’ve seen her walk right up to micros more times than I can count. Ammo cans too. She has also given the Kansas City geocaching scene a sense of community with the many events she has planned and hosted, such as the up and coming 8th Annual KC picnic. I enjoyed working with Carlin on the KC History Tour, another great event that she organized. She is a fun caching companion – a couple of my favorite caching road trips has been with Carlin – once on a Kansas ‘virtual tour’, and another time a 15-mile bike ride caching along the KATY trail.

The byonke's are Kansas City’s geocaching pioneers, and we wonder if this cache will remind Brian and Carlin of their early days of caching when things weren’t as easy as they are now – back when you needed to make sure you had enough provisions before you left the old homestead for days for a caching trip. Yes, with their 5000 finds, they have blazed a trail for the rest of us to follow.

Congratulations byonke!!
