Dedicated to the actor Robert Newton born 1st of June 1905 who played Long John Silver in the Walt Disney version of Treasure Island and later Blackbeard the pirate, he is the man who put the AhArrrrrrrrr in pirate. As you say it now you will put on that very same West Country accent, be ye closing one eye and rolling tuther manically.
Newton's film career includes several notable ruffians and villains, among them Bill Walker in George Bernard Shaw's Major Barbara, Bill Sykes in David Lean's 1948 film version of Oliver Twist, as well as the afore mentioned Long John Silver, he played Inspector Fix in his last film, Around the World in Eighty Days, which won the Academy Award for Best Picture of that year,1956.
Actor/comedian Tony Hancock, hell raiser Oliver Reed and wild man drummer for The Who Keith Moon were amongst his greatest fans. Incidentally Keith Moon named the band Led Zeppelin who have an album track called Black dog. Shiver me timbers!
