Established in 1861 by Robert Unsworth who had been a beer retailer on the other side of the road. He established a brewery and called his house “Help Me Thro”. The family were here for more than 30 years and the building still keeps it’s character, historians hope that it’s character will not be completely disturbed for it has a background of old world charm.
The brew house was a building at the back of the “Help Me Thro”, Mr Greenhalgh who owned it was at that time the last publican to brew his own beer, brewing continued at this site until the early 1920’s.
During the last year this pub has a new landlord who is very friendly and pulls a good pint.
