Gellyburn is one of the oldest settlements in the area. Pictish remains have been found nearby.
The cache is .75ltr lock 'n lock tub. Small swap items only. There is ad hoc parking or at least places to pull off the road.
The ruins here are of a 19th century 'Farina' mill, all but buried by landfill. Farina then was not as we know it now. It actually meant flour made from crushed potatoes. You can see part of the sluices used to clean the potatoes before they were fed into the crusher, which was powered by a water wheel.
The mill was built by Murthly estate in the late 1850s and let to a local businessman who offered a processing service to farms in the area. The produce could then be easily shipped out from Murthly station, which opened in 1856.
Ware muggles! Particularly the two-wheeled twin-stroke variety.
