The Hochrain was once the site of a small farming village. There were also several unsuccessful attempts to mine brown coal in the area. The basement of one of the original houses and signs of coal mining are still visible in the area. Unlike like its neighbor the Muckenhof, the Hochrain was not destroyed by the DDR, it was abandoned in the late 1800s, even though attempts to mine coal continued until 1947.
Hochrain war früher eines kleinen Bauerndorfes. Es gab dann einige unrentable Versuche Braunkohle in dieser Gegend abzubauen. Der Keller eines der Häuser, sowie Schilder des Braunkohleabbaus sind noch heute in dieser Gegend zu sehen. Anders als der benachbarte Muckenhof wurde Hochrain nicht durch die Regierung der DDR zerstört, seine Bewohner verliesen ihre Heimat gegen ende 1800, wohingegen Versuche des Kohleabbaus noch bis 1947 betrieben wurden.
