WOODY'S HUT Traditional Cache

The cache is on the Alexandria hiking trail
The circular, Alexandria Hiking Trail, begins at the Woody Cape section of the Addo Elephant National Park, near Alexandria.
The first day of the trail is 20 Km long and starts off with a walk through the forest where Yellowwoods and Coral Trees can be seen. The trail then crosses some open grassland before reaching the shore.
Dolphins and Whales are often seen while walking the 6Km of coastline. The sandy beach and dune cliffs provide breathtaking scenery. The cliffs of Woody Cape provide the hiker with two options, either walking along the base of the cliffs (impassable at high tide) and then climbing a log and rope ladder or traversing dunes to reach the cliff top followed by a walk along the top of the cliffs in soft sand to Woody Cape Hut, where the cache is hidden in a 1.2L lock & lock.
The hut has beds for 12 people. It relies on rainwater tanks so water must be used sparingly. A two plate gas burner is also available . No fires are allowed. From the hut the views out across the surf are stunning and Bird Island Lighthouse is visible in the distance.
The second day of the trail is a strenuous 16,5Km long and traverses the largest dune field in the Southern Hemisphere before once again climbing through indigenous forest, passing Tree Dassie cache (GC1CVNB), back to the starting point.
The Alexandria Trail is a dificult trail as the distances are long and the soft sand makes walking difficult. Hiking experience is necessary, especially in the dune field. Take a windbreaker and a pair of goggles or sunglasses for windy days in the dunes.
