This cache was placed for the West Coast Cache Bash 2008
Situated in the scenic Kyles of Bute, Tighnabruaich lifeboat station has celebrated nearly 40 years of saving lives at sea. The inshore lifeboat carries out rescues mainly to leisure craft.
1967 An inshore lifeboat station was established in May with a D class lifeboat, which was kept in a boathouse in the grounds of Tighnabruaich Hotel facing towards the Kyles of Bute.
1981 A new boathouse was built on the same site.
1994 A C class lifeboat was placed on service for one year’s evaluation.
1995 The C class was placed on permanent service.
1997 A new boathouse for a B class lifeboat and its launching tractor was completed in August, providing improved crew facilities.
1998 The C class was withdrawn from service and the B class Atlantic 75 lifeboat, B-743 Alec and Maimie Preston was placed on station on 8 April.
Cache is located next to the old life boat station.
