Although a bit long in the making, this cache is the first in a
series of caches around Cardiff’s rivers Taff, Ely and
Rhymney and is located close to the river Ely. At the moment,
Cardiff council is working on the Ely trail, which will give
pedestrians and cyclists the opportunity to walk/cycle along the
river Ely from Cardiff Bay to St. Fagans (Visit
Link! for the present status). Although not all of our caches
will be along this trail, caching cyclists (or cycling cachers)
might want to use (part of) the trail to cycle from cache to
cache.
Please note that you bring your own pen or
pencil!
Grangemoor Park
Grangemoor Park is a former rubbish tip and was turned into a
green area for local residents. From the top of the main hill there
are great views across Cardiff and the river Ely. The park is
adjacent to Cardiff Bay Retail Park, so if you need to do some
shopping, you can combine it with caching. In the spring and summer
there are often skylarks around, giving the park a countryside
feel, even though it is located in a rather urban area.
At times the area could do with a little bit of CITO,
unfortunately, as people tend to take their McDonald's food with
them to the top and then 'forget' to take their litter with them.
Please bear in mind, that the paths in the park are unpaved, so do
attempt this walk with appropriate footwear when it has been
raining!

If you are interested in finding
the final bonus cache, have a look at the picture inside the cache
and guess which river is depicted on it. It might be handy to take
a camera with you to photograph the information and do your
research at home. The answers to the questions will be used for the
final bonus cache.
This cache is part of a series of caches around Cardiff's
rivers, but as we are waiting for the completion of the Ely trail
the series is still unfinished.
