Geocache Description:

Good bush track. The Chinese miners called it Longhilly.Cache is green(or was once green) screw top jar with logbook, pen and a few trading items.

This track is part of TeAraroa(the long pathway)which is a network of tracks throughout NZ. Developed by Southland TeAraroa trust & Doc & opened 29/3/08.he track takes you into Round Hill gold mining site on an easy bush lined track where you can see the old water races and remnants of mining machinery and tram lines. Early development and mining was done by Chinese miners about 500 of whom lived in Canton village 1km north of the car park. Sluicing operations came later and needed kilometers of water races, some 20km long. I hope this is a pleasant diversion for cachers traveling Highway 99 between Riverton and Orepuki. Turn into Round Hill road at S46'20.338 E167'50.121 and drive to carpark at S46'19.936 E 167'49.941 Cache is a few hundred meters up the track.
