1st in a series of 3 caches set around the village of Burton in Kendal.A gentle walk through a mixture of Parkland, Woods , Hedge enclosed pathways and a Canal Towpath.
These caches may be done individually, but as we know many cachers are really 'walkers with an aim in life' we felt that for those who are looking for a circular walk, that can be tackled by the Family, over a distance of approx 6.5km that takes about 3-4 hours then this is maybe just for you. There is a short section through Woodland that, thanks to the cattle, chews up a bit and becomes 'muddy' after rain. The rest of the route is flat, dry and easy going.
Parking can be found at N54. 11.928 W002. 43.528.
Leave the car and cross the M6 heading East to reach the A6070. Take great care in crossing this major A road to the signposted footpath for Clawthorpe. Admire (with envy) the large detached property overlooking the meadow.
The cache is hidden in a medium circular tub and contains (originally) A Keyring penlight, pen, rubber and logbook.
After your success, continue ESE across the field to the interesting dogleg stile at the cottages. After another 200m or so turn NE up the tree covered road to a signposted Bridleway for Burton Fell. If the weather is kind to you turn around and admire the canopy of trees on this section of roadway. Take the stile into the Woodland and on to the next in the series :-
