This Cache is my first cache and has been placed to provoke some thought. It is round what is one of my favourite forest walks. It is a 3 mile circular walk taking in various aspects of the forest open plains, woodlands enclosures and man made additions.
All stages are close to if not on main paths, with good paths leading between them. Please note this is a Multi Cache, to mark it as found you should find the final cache. If you wish to log as you complete each stage (I have seen some people take some time to complete), please log it as a note. If you get stuck I will do my best to help. Parking at Longslade Bottom P1 (N 50 48.019’ W 001 37.128’) is best on foot and can easily complete the Cache in 2 parts. You will need to cross one road once. Parking at Longslade View P2 (N 50 47.959’ W001 36.399’ When it’s open) Or at P3 (N50 47.799 W001 36.889’) are slightly longer walks but make a nicer cycle. You should pass the "Fat Controller" and "Sammy's Stash" where ever you park… At Longslade view car park (and many others) you may notice a metal strip along the top of the temporary barrier. These are now common on Forest Car Park gates; when the council first started shutting car-park people would cut through wooden gates to “reopen” the Car Parks in protest. After being “temporary” closed (and unofficially “opened” several times) it took a campaign to keep Longslade View open. Which was wasted as it again gets closed seasonally. Stage 1: Past - Buzzing N50 48.160 W001 36.404 Takes you to the past, why did some one want to build this here? On a quiet morning you can hear the buzzing for a surprising distance. Mistakes of the past you would hope we would learn. At these Coordinates, you will need to find the telephone number: 0 A 0 0 B C D E F 9 Stage 2: Present - The Cottage N 50 (A/2) A .(B+C) A (BxB) W 001 (B+C)6.6 (B+C) D You can only question why anybody would want to build or be allowed such a building to be built in such a beautiful corner of forest. Originally it was much smaller forest house and in fitting. On Communications pole 2 round rusty numbers: G H Stage 3: They got one right, then wrong – Over not up and down N50 48.D H D W 001 37.D (G+H) (G+H) Here you will find a man made item that was built about 2008 to allow better cycle access to the forest. What a grand addition it was, sadly it was not designed to last. How many street lights light it: J Do not look to hard your first answer is correct! Stage 4: Improved – Along no longer around. N 5 0 (BxB) H. J G J W 0 0 1 (B+C) (H-G) . (H-G) (H-G) J At this stage there used to be a barrier stopping bikes to allow caravans/ cars to cross the cycle path... It has now been removed... I would like to think my cache helped in some small way :) In removing the barrier they removed my clue so now you are looking for a post indicating the direction large vehicles should pass. What number in the alphabet are the first 2 letters on the sign. (A=1 B=2 etc) K L Final Cache Location: Why Here? N 50 4 L . K 5 (K/B) W 001 3 L. B L (K+C) You can follow your GPS and walk/ cycle through the inhabited area (its keeps getting bigger). Dogs on leads please not just at a heel (there rules not mine)... The Final Cache is placed by another type of structure that is common across the forest, although is now much degraded which is a good thing! There is significant tree cover so don't be afraid to use the clue. I hope you enjoy this Cache and take away only the beautiful bits. Its a walk I do regularly and in my opinion a good sample of the forest.
