Geocache Description:

LISNAMINTRY RATH

Rath at Lisnamintry is classified as an early Christian Rath or farm settlement, dating from 500 - 1000AD and would have been a site of major importance. It is sited on the summit of a low hill, interspersed with trees, the earthwork still displays much of the original apparent intricacy of the settlement. This Rath or homestead, would most likely of had a wooden defence surrounded by a ditch.

Little else has been documented about this site, but if you know better, please forward the details to me so that I can update this page to give a more informative history of the area.

The CACHE

The entrance to the Rath can be found off the Ballygargen Road at N54 25.745 W6 23.223. The container is a standard tablocked box hidden a short way from one of the many grassy paths. It should be large enough for the some swaps; standard TB's; and Geocoins.
