This cache is located on the summit of Dent de Vaulion, a peak in
the Jura mountain range of Switerland in the Canton of Vaud. The
site is an easy day trip anywhere from Geneva to Montreux.
The trip to this cache can be made either easy, by driving to
the summit (you lazy dog), or you can make yourself work for it by
hiking up (1482m asl). We hiked up from the train station at Le
Pont to set it up.
If you decide to drive, you can get all the way up to the
restaurant near the summit at N 46° 40.789' E 6° 21.043'.
Otherwise, you can take the train to either Le Pont or postbus from
Vallorbe to Vaulion and hike up on official trails to the summit
thru picturesque alpine meadows, forests and farms. If you decide
to make a hike out of it, I recommend doing a traverse from Le Pont
to the cache and then on to Vaulion.
Walking time up is about 2hrs. The decent takes around 1 1/2
hrs.
On a clear day, the view from the top is pretty amazing. One can
see most of the grand peaks of the Berner Oberland Alps in the
distance, along with major peaks in France like the Mont Blanc
Massif.
Sorry, no details on the exact location. However, I do recommend
to 'approach from below'.
The cache is an ammo box wrapped in a couple of plastic
bags.
Some of the initial contents include:
