Geocache Description:

This is the oldest physical cache in the City of St Louis. This was the 33rd cache I placed. I hid 66 caches in 2001 and had more hides than anyone in the world. Things have changed!

Important note

There are many other caches and letterboxes in Forest Park that were set up after Moving Cache. The final could be very close to them. The final is a plastic peanuts container with a blue lid that has Moving Cahce on it. So make sure you have moving cache before you move it!

This is not a typical cache. It is a two-part cache. The coordinates and clues for the second cache are in the first cache. After you find the second cache, you have to hide it somewhere else in Forest Park. If you have never hid a cache before, this is one where you can get some practice.

After you hide the second cache, you must watch this site. You are responsible for any problems that develop with the second cache until someone else finds it. Make sure you keep the coordinates for the second cache until someone finds it. Your log needs to indicate you have found both parts and moved the second/or indicate you left it where it was due to being an out of towner. Logs without this will be deleted.

You can find this cache for a second time after 10 others find it.

It would be helpful if you post a note when you are heading for the cache in case someone else is also going to try to find it.

Some things to think about: You do not need to be discreet when you find the second cache (since you are going to move it). So this opens up additional places to hide it. Just make sure it is hid well. The first cache is real easy to find and I think I found a great spot for it. It has easy access and is well hid. It is about a 25 foor walk from the parking. There is a nice trail system in the woods. I am including some trailhead waypoints if you want about a .25 mile walk to the cache or there is not parking by the cache.

Directions for this Cache. Please read and follow carefully.

This is a two part cache.

The directions for the second cache are in the first cache in a notebook titled, “Moving Cache Directions Book.”

The first thing you do is sign the hunting log in case someone else tries to find this cache at the same time you are. It is in the first cache.

Take the Moving Cache Directions Book with you and rehide the first container (in the same spot).

Find the second cache with the directions in the “moving cache directions book.”

If you cannot find the second cache, return the moving cache directions book back to the first container.

After you find the second cache, cross out the directions you followed and indicate on that page the date and time you found the second cache.

Now rehide the second cache somewhere in Forest Park.

On a new page in the Moving Cache Directions Book, write 1) the coordinates of the place you hid the second cache, 2) Directions to it, and 3) Your name, date and time.

Return the Moving Cache Directions Book to the first container.

When you get home, start watching this cache. You are responsible for the second cache until someone else finds it.

If you do NOT live in the STL Area, do NOT move the second part of the cache. (If something happens, you could not check up on the cache.) You can log this as a find if you go and find the final. ******************************************************************************************************************** The fine print (you don’t need to read this): There are some who think they are special and don’t have to do what hundreds of other cachers have done. When Groundspeak outlawed Additional Logging Requirements reviewer *gln told me this cache was OK. Now he says its not. So I am changing the rules of the cache to deal with it. Here are the official rules for the cache. Under the ALR rules, “Physical caches can be logged online as Found once the physical log has been signed.” Finding the physical log will be much harder than finding a needle in the haystack. When cachers complained about SLAGA allowing MOGA volunteers to log 100+ finds on caches they never found as a reward for volunteering and competitors claiming finds on caches they were miles away from as a reward for the event, Groundspeak ruled that was allowed. Under this Groundspeak approved principle, I will allow anyone who finds the second part and moves it to claim a find on the cache. I will also allow someone who lives out of town to claim a find if they find the second part-you do not have to move it. The 3rd part and final for the cache is hidden at one of the previous locations the moving part was at and listed in the directions book and a anytime I may move the final to a different location in the directions book. If you find the actual final and log, you can also claim a find. The official way to find this 3 part cache is find the starting point, find the moving part, and then find the final and sign the log. But if you follow the rules described above, I will allow you to claim a find. So just follow the directions above, this is just to deal with some who are trying to destroy over 10 years of tradition.
