During the Civil War refugees who had fled from their homes were cared for here at a camp known as Blackford's Grove, consisting of 16 acres; bounded by Washington, Powell, Parrett and Garvin Streets. At least that's what the historical marker said before someone plowed it down recently.
If you look towards the East(ish) you will see the a building repurposed for an Event Gallery. Before this it was a grocery store for many years off and on. It was originally the Walton Motor Co. as witnessed by the stone sign embedded at the top of the building. This entire area also known as Haynie's Corner area or Goosetown is trying to become an Art District. The historic Alhambra theater is close by. Take your time to explore the area, which in the past has garnered a poor reputation for unsavory activities.
This is a high traffic area at times and it just might not be that easy. I also would avoid it at night. The container is a camo film canister.
