Roamin' Roman Meadows Traditional Cache

This cache has been archived.

The Blorenges: Came to check up on this one and... yes, it's gone. Strangely, the footpath has migrated about 12ft since we placed the cache - it now passes right alongside the dead tree where the cache was located so it's hardly surprising it's disappeared. Originally the path was further from the tree and you had to walk off the path through the meadow grass to find it. We'll think about creating a brand new cache somewhere in the area.

Geocache Description:

A footpath walk along a tarmac lane, through a shady wood and onto sloping meadows. From suggested parking, there and back, will take about 45 minutes. The path through the woods gets very muddy after rain.
June 2008 - Hay fever sufferers may prefer to avoid this cache at presnt!

When we set the nearby Motorway Mayhem cache we explored the area a bit further and founds this spot on a beautiful sunny Sunday morning. We decided it deserved a cache of its own. We have already created the "Roamin' Roman Ruins" cache at Caerwent and so decided to continue with the Roman theme here because this public footpath leads up through Priory Woods, across the meadows between the golf course to join the path of the old Roman Road (Via Julia) which ran from Caerleon through Catsash and further eastwards into Caerwent.
Roman meadows

The cache is a very easy find but please be careful that you don't get muggled by golfers as they may be crossing the footpath higher up the slope.
