On the trail to Scarface Mt. outside of Saranac Lake
In Ray Brook, between Lake Placid and Saranac Lake, there is a road
almost opposite the State Park Headquarters, which leads to the
Scarface Mountain trailhead. The TopoZone map does not show this
trail but most hiking maps do. The trail to the cache is an easy
and scenic hike, and it is located before the climb to the top of
the mountain starts.
Follow the trail for about 1.5 miles until you come to some
large cement slabs in a clearing on the left-hand side of the
trail. Continue a short distance more and watch for a small,
secondary trail going off to the right. Take this secondary trail
until you come to two large boulders slightly off to the right of
the trail. The trail is lovely. Enjoy the view. Good luck!
