Every summer we make a few trips out to Bethel Road to check out the fireflies.
Lampyridae is a family in the beetle order Coleoptera, members of which are commonly called fireflies, lightning bugs or (ambiguously) "glow worms" due to their conspicuous nocturnal (or, more accurately, crepuscular) use of bioluminescence to attract mates or prey. Fireflies are capable of producing a "cold light" containing no ultraviolet or infrared rays, with a wavelength from 510 to 670 nanometers, pale reddish, yellowish or green in colour, with a lighting efficiency of up to 96%
You can get to this cache two different ways. You can either get to the cache from the east off of Highway 20 or you can enter from the west off of Highway two. Either way is sufficient as this strip of Bethel Road is just a short connector of the two highways that isn't much more than a mile in distance. We highly recommend doing this cache in the evening so you can check out the cool lighting bugs. Just drive until you think you can spot them, stop the vehicle, shut off the lights and check them out. We usually see them most abundantly in June. If you can't get this cache during a summer evening that's okay- It still should be a fun cache to find. The container is a small magnetic container that can hold various small items.
Good Luck and Have Fun from Team Ozzo
