Te Deum Laudamus Traditional Cache

This cache has been archived.

Dalesman: This cache has been disabled for some time and as the owner has not repaired it I am archiving it.

Guidelines: "You are responsible for occasional visits to your cache to maintain proper working order, especially when someone reports a problem with the cache (missing, damaged, wet, etc.). You may temporarily disable your cache to let others know not to search for it until you have a chance to fix the problem. This feature is to allow you a reasonable amount of time - normally a few weeks - in which to check on your cache. If a cache is not being maintained, or has been temporarily disabled for an unreasonable length of time, we may archive the listing."

If you wish to email me please send your email via my profile (click on my name) and quote the cache name and number.

Many thanks,

Geocache Description:

The Te Deum stone is one of several stones written in Latin in these parts. Te Deum Laudamus means "We praise Thee, o God".

A pleasant walk along an ancient track with magnificent views. Can be muddy in very wet weather, so good walking boots are recommended.

Park your car in the Withens Clough Reservoir car park at N53º42.346 W002º01.280 and after locating the Withens Clough cache, walk up to this Te Deum Laudamus Stone cache.

Located at Withens Gate, this ancient stone is situated on the Calderdale Way footpath and not too far from the Pennine Way footpath.

From the Te Deum stone you can see the wild surrounds of Withins Clough. Once the home of Bronze Age man, it even held 17 farms until the building of the Withens Clough Reservoir - part of the price we pay for clean water.

Also carved on this stone is a cross and the initials I.D.
I have tried to find out who the initials I. D. refer to, but have never found an answer.

From the Te Deum stone you can walk along a track with stone pillar waymarks to Long Stoop, another, larger waymark stone which stands precariously at an angle, and then turn left following the Pennine Way to the Bald Scout, Derek's Drive, Gaddings Dam and Langfield Edge caches.

The cache box is an old pill container- you have to line up the arrows to get it open! Pencil included at time of replacing.

Ignore the J=5 that's written on the cache. It is a relic of a past mystery cache.
