Cross of the Martyrs Traditional Cache
OReviewer: As there's been no cache to find for months, I'm archiving it to keep it from continually showing up in search lists, and to prevent it from blocking other cache placements. If you wish to repair/replace the cache sometime in the future, just contact us (by email), and assuming it meets the guidelines, we'll be happy to unarchive it.

This cache is in breathtaking Santa Fe, New Mexico. Before venturing to this location, please bear in mind, the elevation in Santa Fe is 7,320 FT (2,231 M) above sea level; please be prepared to walk to this worthy destination.
The big white Cross of the Martyrs sits highly visible atop Fort Marcy Park. When you reach it you are rewarded a stunning view of the city of Santa Fe, the Jemez Mountains and the Sangre de Cristos Mountains; possibly the best view in Santa Fe!
BACKGROUND:
During the 1680 Pueblo Revolt, 21 Franciscan Friars died in the fight between the Natives and the Spanish. A single white cross sits on a terraced hill overlooking Santa Fe to honor those holy men. The gradient path that leads up to the cross is paved and has handrails. As you walk the path there are plaques that describe the sights you can see from your position on the hill. This is a great place for a quiet walk, especially during a spectacular multi-colored sunset which New Mexico is known for.
NOTE: for more information about the Pueblo Revolt simply Google: "pueblo revolt in new mexico". My GPS said the coords are +/- 20 feet to destination, but you'll know it when you see it.
