Prairie Grove Battlefield ParkCache Traditional Cache

Welcome to Prairie Grove Battlefield State Park , one of 52 beautiful, historic state parks, each with their own special mission. The other thing they each have is a geocache. This adventure is based around visiting all 52 state parks. Each park cache has a clue that you will need to find the final, 53rd cache located somewhere in the state. Just download the clue sheet and start your adventure. We encourage you to upload photos on the geocaching.com page when you find one and also to tell us about your visit to the park on the state park blog. As an extra incentive, For a limited time you can pick up an Arkansas State Park geocoin at the final location and send it on it's way to visit parks throughout the world!


Prairie Grove Battlefield State Park is recognized nationally as one of America's most intact Civil War battlefields. The park protects the battle site and interprets the Battle of Prairie Grove, where on December 7, 1862, the Confederate Army of the Trans-Mississippi clashed with the Union Army of the Frontier resulting in about 2,700 casualties in a day of fierce fighting. This marked the last major Civil War engagement in northwest Arkansas.

Walk along the ridge and in the valley where the heaviest fighting took place. Take the one-mile Battlefield Trail or travel the park's five-mile Driving Tour. Visit the Battlefield Museum. Tour the historic structures in the Ozark village. Park exhibits, tours and programs describe the battle and its local effect. The park hosts Arkansas's largest battle reenactment biennially on even-numbered years on the first weekend of December.
