A simple traditional drive-by cache.
This is the largest colony of Aloe arborescens that I have ever seen! It is interesting at any time of the year but particularly attractive around July-August.
A native of South Africa some common names are Candelabra Plant, Torch Aloe or Kranz Aloe.
It is a hardy shrub and grown world-wide as a garden plant or hedge. It is said to be richer than Aloe Vera in respect of its medicinal properties.
At Port Elliot these aloes also flourish on the rocky slopes around Freeman Nob. They were probably planted here many years ago and are known locally as Red-hot Pokers.
You are looking for a 1 litre black-painted Sistema clip-lock container containing logbook, pencil and a small collection of goodies.
