Stonyhills is probably one of the smallest hamlets in Hertfordshire, originally 2 houses and a Pub. The latter, The Three Harts, is now a private house but the old Pub sign frame is still there. 4 Houses exist now. The area historically centred around gravel extraction and brick making. The Stonyhills brickworks site is now occupied by a furniture factory, just a quarter mile north of the hamlet. The stock bricks were yellowish and stamped “Stonyhills” The rolling countryside sits on top of vast deposits of sand and gravel which is targeted for future extraction. Plans face a running battle with local residents. Evidence of old pits and covered landfill can be seen to the west towards Stapleford. Upper Stonyhills Wood has been “worked” in the past and now many rodents large & small frequent it. Beware the holes! Cache contains: Key clip Puzzle Bottle opener Droopy duck Bear brooch
