How Geocaching Works

Geocache Description:

The most difficult part of this park and grab is avoiding mugglers. Please use extreme stealth as this cache has come up missing many times and is now a magnetic nano container, which makes it harder to muggle but also harder to find. Please bring something to write with. There is no need to disturb any part of the premises in order to locate the cache. Permission was received from the property owner to place a cache here so please be respectful. This site can also be logged as a benchmark.

Mt. Carmel Center:
Formerly St. Mary’s Cathedral, the red brick landmark was built in 1900-1901. Church services were conducted until
1976. The building is being restored and used for the performing arts.
The Mt. Carmel Story:
In an effort to preserve the old St. Mary Cathedral, a Gaylord landmark, the Mt. Carmel Historical Group was founded. This group purchased the building from the Diocese of Gaylord in 1985 and has been granted tax exempt status as a nonprofit corporation.

The Building is situated in the center of the city of Gaylord and was constructed in 1900-1901, at a total cost of some fifteen thousand dollars. At that time and for years to come, it was the largest building in the area. The bell tower and its ubiquitous clock have withstood years of harsh treatment by the weather and continue to serve as a beacon and landmark for the Alpine Village.

Mt. Carmel Centre is dedicated to preserve the history of the community arts activities; a site for cultural pursuits of various types.
