MICHIGAN STATE - East Lansing, Michigan is the home of the Michigan State Spartans. You will find Sparty the Spartan rooting on his team at every game in Spartan Stadium. It was opened in 1923, 27 years after the first season began in 1896. Michigan St. has won 3 National Championships and 6 Big 10 Championships.
PENN STATE - The Penn State Nittany Lions make thier home in University Park, Pennsylvania. Their first football season was in 1887. Beaver Stadium was built in 1909 and was named after James A Beaver - the former governor of Pennsylvania (1887-91) and President of the University Board of Trustees. The stadium was dismantled in 1960 and moved to the East End of campus where it still stands. Penn State was an independent conference until 1993 when they joined the Big 10. They have won 2 National Championships as an independent and 2 with the Big 10. They have 2 Big 10 Championships and 7 undefeated seasons.
Michigan State and Penn State are rivals that play for a trophy called "The Land Grant Trophy".
