Here are 6 more Hancock Shaker Village caches located along a nice well traveled loop trail (approx 4.5 miles) that goes over Holy Mount (Mt Lebanon). These caches tie in with the other existing 10 caches on the trail going over Mt. Sinai (Shaker Mountain).
All caches are named after Shakers or people very close to the Shakers.
The area is posted. Hancock Shaker Village has been great to work with and has given us permission to hide caches on their property plus let us hike through their posted area to get to those caches located in the State Forest. Please keep in mind that this is private and historical property.
If you are hiking between 9:30A and 4:30P, HSV requests that you begin your caching by checking in at the Hancock Shaker Village Visitor’s Center. There is no fee. This is not necessary during other hours. While you are checking in, please ask for a free copy of the Boy Scout Trail Guide which has a great map of the Shaker trails along with lots of historical info. If you don’t get the Boy Scout map then you may want to try www.mass.gov/dcr for a trail map (click on Pittsfield State Forest).
The best way to hike this is to do the loop counter clockwise. This way you can see the trail signs put up by the Boy Scouts which will keep you on the correct trail!!
You will be crossing several brooks which may be interesting to cross during snowmelt or after heavy rains.
Park at N42 25.896 W073 20.398 and hike up the dirt road.
BYOP (a few caches have pens)
GPS signal was poor today with heavy tree cover in most spots. All caches are pretty easy to find even if my coords are off a little.
