In Memory of the GIGANTIC Pencil Traditional Cache

You're looking for a small painted lock n' lock on the Siksika Trail in the Cooking Lake - Blackfoot Provincial Recreation Area. Note the coords for best parking below. From here you can access Siksika Trail from the south via the Waskahegan Trail Society Connector Trail

EDIT - August, 2025. The Gigantic Pencil that once towered over the trail nearby has been removed so this cache has become a memorial to its greatness. The cache container seems to have disappeared too, but has been replaced.

It was quite the thing.

In a few select places along the Siksika Trail there were GIGANTIC pencils stuck in the ground! Sometimes you saw two pencils across the trail from each other and other times one solitary pencil. The erasers on the pencils were gnawed off long ago, probably by hungry animals or very nervous hikers. But there the GIGANTIC pencils once sat. A thorough search of the area with Google Earth didn't turn up any GIGANTIC notepads, so it was hard to know what to make of those things. ;-)

The cache is near where a solitary GIGANTIC pencil used to stand.

Tell your friends! Drag them all out to the beautiful Siksika Trail and show them where the GIGANTIC pencils used to be!  😃
