Geocache Description:

This cache is in the Rietfontein Nature Reserve where Free Me (a Wildlife Rehabilitation Centre) is located. There is a lovely 2km hiking trail through the reserve along which there are two caches placed. This cache is located at the highest point in the reserve (40m ascent from the parking area) along a well marked and signed path.

PLEASE PARK AT: S26 01.804 E28 02.427.

YOU ARE NOT PERMITTED TO DRIVE THROUGH THE RESERVE AT ALL

We have spoken to the City Parks who run this reserve and they have no problem with people walking the trail or having a picnic along the route. Please be very considerate of the animals in the reserve. There are many different species and along the route you will find many sign boards with interesting information about the animals and birds in the area.

There is a guard at the entrance (sometimes) who should let you in with no questions asked. If asked you are coming to hike or visit Free Me.

From the parking area, facing the entrance, the trail starts to the right and the trail is circular.

From the cache location you can get an almost 360 degree view of Lonehill, Kyalami, Paulshof, Rivonia and Fourways. Sit here and admire the view. Continue along the trail to find the “Abandoned House” cache.
