simpjkee: Hi Texas! simpjkee here. Figured it was time to archive this one.
Wanted to say "Thank You" to everyone who was able to attend. I've been to plenty of events here in AZ, but have never hosted one. Being my first event, let alone out-of-state, I was a little unsure of what to expect, but the second I got there Soulcachers (who I had met a couple days earlier) came over and greeted me and then everyone came in and was just as welcoming. I really enjoyed being able to meet everyone and I hope I got to shake everyones hand. This event was way more than I expected and my mom, cousin, and cousin's husband enjoyed being there and meeting everyone as well. I look forward to being able to hang out with everyone again. Hopefully next Summer ; )
What a great vacation!
My cousin Keena enjoyed doing the "Just Another Georgetown Micro" P&G's. She very effectively used it as a way of showing us around town and I even heard her saying things like "Well I've never been down this road" and "Wow! I never knew this was here". So she got to see some things that she hadn't seen yet. We ended up getting quite a few of those caches together.
I got to hike Barton Creek again, which was awesome, even though the creek was dry. Last Summer, my mother and I visited after major rains and the creek was flowing fast. It seemed this Summer it was after a bit of a drought so it was dry, but there were still some really cool caches. I hiked from the "Hill of Life" to "Zilker Park". It got pretty warm the last 2 miles, but it was still much more doable than hiking here in AZ during the Summer.
My cousin's husband, Jose, enjoyed the more adventurous caches. After getting some easier caches, he decided to go with me and cache the Goodwater Trail around Lake Georgetown. Together we grabbed all the Scout's Law caches and a couple others along the way. We even saw a live Armadillo! Never seen one before. We also got to jump in the lake and later along the trail it rained on us, but the rain just kept us cool.
If any of you are heading to the Phoenix area some day, we have some great caching here to. There are some fantastic caching hikes right around Phoenix. Plus we have some incredibly creative hides in our area as well. Feel free to drop me an e-mail anytime.
Big thanks to Rudy's Bar-B-Que. I think we went there 3 times while I was in TX. The "Extra Moist Brisket" is my favorite!
Big thanks also to the nice people at the "Central Texas Geocachers Yahoo Group" for their suggestions and advice. Had it not been for them, I probably would not have had this event.
Thanks again everyone! You guys are awesome! See ya next Summer!
