1950's photo shows junction of Mt. Herman Rd. and Highway 17 at Camp Evers.
Wax Museum was .4 of a mile north of "X" on what is now Scotts Valley Drive.
The Beverly Gardens was established in the early 1930s and featured a collection of exotic birds and animals, a restaurant, and cabins. In the early 1950s the Beverly Lodge became a wax museum operated by Brad McDonald. The museum included figures of Clark Gable, Rudolph Valentino, and Lillian Russell. When I was working at Santa's Village in the late 1950's, before Highway 17 bypassed Scott's Valley, we would drive up from Santa Cruz past Camp Evers on the left and then past the Wax Museum buildings on the right all painted bright pink with white trim. On the two occasions that I actually got to explore the Wax Museum, I was most captivated by the two figures sitting on either side of a checkerboard... so real it was scary.
Old Beverly Gardens/Wax Museum parking lot is still usable so you should park there.
