Cache is a plastic fruit container that has been soaked in a weak solution of phenol. It has been washed thoroughly, but it is advisable to wash hands before handling food after handling the cache.
Besides the usual swap articles there is a First Find Trophy that hasn‘t been soaked in anything.
This is a cache that might test your level of fitness. There is a 200 metre vertical difference between park and Cache. Go prepared with stout walking boots and be wary of the odd leech - the even ones too. (I went looking for an old mine that is in the area and I damn near needed a blood transfusion by the time I got out of the lantanna and bush.) Be assured you don’t have to push through lots of lantanna to get to the site. Actually it is a pretty reasonable track to walk on - if a little steep in places.
Your first test will be to find the exit from the Atherton Herberton Highway. It is quite difficult to see and so be sure to have these co-ordinates in your GPS.
S 17° 19.184' E 145° 26.548'
If the weather is dry, you can park down off the road. If it is wet it is advisable to stay on the side of the road as the ditch can get soft. I got permission from the State Forest Ranger to put this one in, and one of the conditions for permission was that the gate had to be left as found as there is a cattle lease over the area and there are often cattle around or being handled. I also promised that I would instruct folk to park outside the gate. Even though a four wheel drive vehicle could go at least part way to the cache, please respect these conditions.
At point S 17º 19.154’ E 145º 26.534’ there is a fork in the track and the main track turns left. Here you must veer right otherwise you will find yourself up amongst the lantanna and the leeches.
Follow the track until you come to the spot that I reckon is Far e-bloody-nough at point S 17º 18.696’ E 145º 26.495’ Then it is a relatively easy stroll to the cache site.
The cache hidey hole is a bit difficult but be assured that while you are admiring the view you are very close to it.
