Greenfield's Legacy Fountain Cache Traditional Cache

This cache has been archived.

Wis Kid: As there's been no cache to find for months, I'm archiving it to keep it from continually showing up in search lists, and to prevent it from blocking other cache placements. If you wish to repair/replace the cache sometime in the future, just contact us (by email), and assuming it meets the guidelines, we'll be happy to unarchive it.

Geocache Description:

Welcome to one of the City of Greenfield’s newest parks: Bicentennial Park

City of Greenfield Parks hours are sunrise until 10:00 PM. Please limit your search for this geocache to those hours. During the summer months, you might actually enjoy visiting this location after dark to see the special lighting.

As part of the development of the new Greenfield Police Administration building, this park has been totally re-done and is now a dedicated city park. I previously had a cache called “In Remembrance of K-9 Reggie” here which marked the grave of the first Greenfield Police Dog. (Reggie is no longer buried here.)

As part of the City’s 50th Birthday celebration in 2007, the park re-development features a legacy fountain that was donated by the Dan Jansen Family Fest. The original Bicentennial Park marker was kept and is now in place prominently. Although the second marker for the City's 50th Birthday, the park benches, and some of the dedication bricks are not in place, I thought this would be a neat place to bring geocachers. By the Fall of 2009, the former Police building (now vacant) will be remodeled to house the Greenfield Library.

I should mention that this cache is “hidden” in plain sight, so no stick-o-flage, shrub hunt or rock-o-flage is necessary. Your greater challenge might be finding a time to search for this one when there are no muggles present. I should also mention “smile” as you will be on the Police Surveillance camera. The Parks staff are aware of this cache so no need for "stealth" if they are working in the area.

Please take note of the careful landscaping of this park. The berm was placed in the shape of a dove. And, there is a perimeter of 13 trees. The original park had 13 trees, each the native tree of the original colonies.

The cache can hold small trade items, it had AuntieNae trolley tags and 2 geocoins when it was first placed. It is nearly handicapped accessible, with a paved walkway from the parking to about the final 5 feet thus the 1.5 terrain rating.

The container itself is not very waterproof. I have provided a ziplock bag inside to keep things dry. PLEASE RESEAL THE BAG!!!!!!!
