P.T. Barnum never said "There's a Sucker Born Every Minute." Visit the Barnum Museum and tell them I sent you for the true story. In the meantime:

On July 5th 1810 Phineas Taylor Barnum was born in Bethel, Connecticut. If you visit that area you can see a number of landmarks that bear his name. However, P.T. Barnum made is home in Bridgeport, Connecticut, where at the age of 60, when most men think of retiring, he created P.T. Barnum's Circus and Hippodromatical Spectacular. After a long and busy life as a showman, entrepeneur, businessman, legislator, investor, and museum owner; Barnum became known most for the Circus. After several mergers the famous partnership of Barnum & Bailey was formed and the phrase "The Greatest Show on Earth" was born. Not until many years after the death of both Barnum and Bailey did Ringling Bros. join forces to create today's Ringling Bros. and Barnum & Bailey Circus.

Barnum was perhaps known more in his lifetime for his American Museum in New York City. Although the museum burned to the ground twice, Barnum never lost his love for the museum business. In 1891, P.T. Barnum endowed two Societies in Bridgeport, CT forming the Barnum Institute of History and Science. Soon after, Barnum obtained land located at the intersection of Main and Gilbert Streets and announced the construction of a museum for his beloved City of Bridgeport. Only five weeks later, on April 7th, 1891, Barnum died. However his legacy lives on in one of the states oldest museums: The Barnum Museum, at N41 10.535' W073 11.294' (www.barnum-museum.org).

Please visit this geocache and then stop by the Museum to discover the many facets of this facinating man.

While on your search you are looking for an ammo box of medium size. Within the box you will find something to make you smile - like the majesty of an elephant, the antics of a clown, or the look of wonderment on a child's face - a smile is one of the greatest gifts anyone can give.

If you are bushwacking, you are taking the hard way, enjoy the walk and remember: "The noblest thing a man can do in life is make others happy."
P.T. Barnum, March 1891
