Geocache Description:

Catalina Flying Boat Memorial Park

The Flying Boat Memorial was erected in 2004 to honour those who served and lost their lives in armed conflict during WW2.

The flying boats are not actually boats at all!

Flying boat was the name given to a specific type of aircraft that was used for maritime surveillance. A number of these planes were based with 10 and 11 Squadrons, who are now located at RAAF base Edinburgh. Whilst the squadrons still exist the flying boats have moved on and now the Orion aircraft continue the tradition of maritime surveillance.

The cache is not located on the memorial but is located near it. Take some time to read the plaques and learn more about the amazing flying boats.

The cache is a tiny container painted black and contains a log book, but you'll need your own pencil. The cache is also the starting point for Team Polywantacracker's travel bug "Napoleon", who wants to travel around the world visiting places of historical wartime and defence importance.

The cache is not amongst any vegetation, so please respect the gardens. Please be sure to replace the cache exactly where you found it as to not spoil it for the next team.
