Located near Thomas Lagoon, Arding.
Thomas Lagoon is a special ecosystem, of a type known as a Montaine Wetland. It supports a wide range of birdlife including nesting black swans most years. These wetlands are usually located near high parts of the Great Dividing Range (this one is approx 300 m from the east/west watershed). Many MWs have been destroyed by agricultural activities, either by continuous grazing and draining, or by creation of a permanent waterhole or "dam". There are 3 unnamed plant species that have been observed in this wetland along with other species which are quite unique to this habitat.
Thomas Lagoon has been protected and is being rehabilitated by the Arding Landcare Group - a small band of intrepid tree planters and coffee/tea drinkers.
The cache contains a log book and pencil. Some starting items are; a small "No tree... no Me" badge and a small "turkshead" knot(this is the scout leader in me :-).
BEWARE OF THE BIG BROWN SNAKES IN SUMMER!
