Geocache Description:

Easy difficulty and terrain with parking space at all stops

In 1941 the Second Armored Division under General George Patton moved into Middle Tennessee from Ft. Benning, GA for the “War Games”. General Patton stated he felt the division was ready to tackle the real thing and do a good job.

The maneuvers lasted from June 2 to 28 with 77,000 soldiers in the 600 square mile area between Murfreesboro, Manchester and Shelbyville. On June 19, 15,000 members of the Fifth Division from Fort Custer held off the 27th and 30th Divisions and the Second Armored Division with their 55,000 troops. On June 20 the Second Armored Division with 2,000 armored cars, about 350 23-ton and 83-ton tanks and tractors manned by 12,000 crack troops slipped behind the Fifth Division from the west and forced them to quit. \

Late in the afternoon this tiny community (2nd cache site) witnessed long double lines of infantry pass through its crossroads. The troops had a cheerful spirit even after marching all night and no regular meal since 4 a.m. Miles of trucks passed later, all filled with these boys in khaki who were the defenders of one free democracy. They encamped by the hundreds around the homes in the area. The troops were courteous and very appreciative of the least kindness shown them.

Due to continual going AWOL the 1st cache, a magnetic key holder giving you the coordinates to the second cache has been changed to an imgraved listing at the same readings.
The 2nd cache is at the crossroads and general camping area of Gen. Patton and his men. You will find the coordinates leading you to the 3rd site which is an ammo box with a log to sign and WWII toy memorabilia to trade.
