The Lake Kleptuza is yet another great adventure by IceFireForce and alma. A typical water-tight box was buried once again somewhere out there. So, set on foot (or whatever else you've got) and go find it!
Velingrad is situated at 750-850 m above sea level. Summers are warm and winters are mild. The average annual temperature is 10°C, while the average July temperature is 19°C. The annual duration of sunshine is about 2,000 hours. The relative air humidity ranges from 65 to 75%. Surrounded by age-old pine tree woods, the town favors abundant sunshine. This exclusively rare and valuable combination has a beneficial influence on the process of ionization (negative ions are prevailing) and is of definite therapeutic importance.
Waters
There are 70 sources of mineral water with curative and preventive properties in and around the town.
Together with the numerous mineral waters, Velingrad boasts another natural phenomenon as well — the Kleptuza, the biggest Karst spring in Bulgaria, with an average discharge of 1200 liters of ice-cold water per second.
The Kleptuza spring is yet the most romantic and mysterious place in Velingrad to be found. A big part of those 1200 liters of ice cold water per second goes to the city's drinking water supply; and what's left behind forms two extremely beautiful lakes which in turn flow into the Chepinska river and then all the way to White sea. South from the spring you'll always find evergreen pine forests, which are turned into a natural park, visited by many, especially in the summertime.
And so, that is where our adventure takes place.
The best way to reach the city of Velingrad is by car, while the most romantic one that will leave you with an unforgettable memories is by train which runs from the city of Septemvri to Velingrad four times every single day. The train that reaches Velingrad is never an ordinary one; it's a narrow-gauge train, meaning that the tracks are smaller and it almost looks like a toy train. It is the last one still in operation in Bulgaria. So, if you want to try that out, go to www.bdz.bg for the train schedules.
Anyways, a good spot to start your adventure is our parking place, also very close to the train station Velingrad-south : N42 00.035 E23 58.869 .
From there, make your way across the lovely wooden bridge here N41 59.987 E23 58.900 and you'll soon reach the Lake Kleptusa - a great summer resort, where delicious food can be found in all seasons throughout the year. Here you can sit by the lake and taste great wine, eat lunch or dinner prepared on the wooden stove they keep running at all times or just have a coffee with some delicious desert suited to your preference.
Above the lake, located in the forest, lies the treasure to be found!
