Geocache Description:

You are looking for a 0.2 litre tupperware box near All Saints Church in North Cerney. It is wheel-chair accessible. Room for very small TBs and swaps, and coins.

All Saints North Cerney is one of four parishes making up the United Benefice of Stratton, North Cerney, Bagendon and Baunton, to which I have a family connection. Each parish has, or will shortly have, its own cache. They can be done individually or on a circular walk, of approximtely 8 miles (I think).

This church is described in Simon Jenkins' England's 1000 Greatest Churches as the Jewel in the Churn Valley. Few who visit it would disagree. It is worth a visit, set as it is, above the A435 which cuts it off from the main part of North Cerney villages. It is the church in which I got married.
As for the building itself, there is some Norman work in the tower, porch & chancel. The stone altar of c. 1200 was rediscovered & replaced in 1912. Beautiful east window in the lady chapel.
A facsinating history of the Rector's of North Cerney, which includes a good history of the village itself, was published a few years back. (visit link)

The Bathurst Arms over the road is also worth a visit. It tries to sell only beer brewed in the County of Gloucestershire or the Cotswolds - and does a fine job. The Cotswold Way is excellent!

Be careful to replace the cache so it can't be seen.

Parking for one car available at the waypoint or ample in North Cerney village or the Bathurst Arms Car Park

One final thing - the 'Watch for Livestock' icon is there for good reason; there are sheep grazing in the churchyard, and the fence that keeps them in does have a very slight electric tingle to it. (The Rector's dog can tell any Geodogs all about it !)
