Geocache Description:

This is a quick roadside cache that will take you to an excellent lookout point overlooking the Illovo Lagoon and Illovo Beach.

If you do this one early in the morning you will potentially see a spectactular sunrise over the sea.

The river was named by the Zulus iLovu (now corrupted to Lovu), because of the mlovo trees growing on its banks.

The lookout is on a long ridge covered with tall trees, creepers and flowering plants and overlooks not only the lagoon but Illovo beach as well.

Illovo Beach’s recorded history stretches back to about 1860 when MacDougal’s riverside store was a welcome watering hole for passing travelers. Then, with the increase of traffic, a Mr Pearce opened an inn on the southern bank in 1862 and it was his son, William, who eventually started the Illovo Sugar Mill in the year 1890.

You can drive right up to the cache. Beware the muggles potentially watching from the apartments across the road. You may want to use your vehicle to shield you from view.
