Geocache Description:

I would suggest you only attempt this cache in summer.

It’s bleak up here, at almost 1500 feet. This cache is, at the moment, the most westerly cache in the Metropolitan Borough of Barnsley, and by definition the most westerly cache in South Yorkshire. The views offered here are extensive and striking, allowing the walker or geocacher to pause and take in the wonderful landscape. Landmarks include; Holme Moss transmitter, Black Hill, Castle Hill, Huddersfield, Emily Moor transmitter, Stocksbridge, Drax and other power stations. The location is quiet and peaceful offering a variety of interesting diversions.

Please take the time to climb the hill towards Snailsden Edge, away from the reservoir, for even better views. I would have placed the cache here if there had been any suitable hiding places.

The route to the cache can be arduous, since there isn’t a clear path after the reservoir dam. Take care, although the route was dry when I hid the cache you will have to walk across streams and boggy ground. The wall surrounding the reservoir is starting to deteriorate and great examples of natural erosion can be seen.
