Geocache Description:

Largest and oldest grave site in the Söderhamn area from the iron ages!

This grave site consists of 15 mounds. It's the largest grave site area in the Söderhamn area and has graves dating from the Iron Ages, with graves dating from 500BC to 1050AD. Grave sites of this type are amongst the most common remains from these prehistoric times. The larger part of them consist most likely of burnt remains, as the most common method of burial in those times was cremation. Over the remains of the fire that the body was burned in a mound or pile of stones was erected, normally in a rounded shape, but occasionally rectangular or triangular in shape. This area was called Alir in prehistoric times.
