The First Meeting House Mystery Cache

This cache has been archived.

goldsnoop-: When I placed this cache in this old cemetery you couldn't recognize it was a cemetery. Now they have finally started to clean it up and replace the broken stones with crosses, BUT they decided to ask me to remove the cache. The minister says it was inappropriate. So the container will show up as a new cache soon somewhere else. Not a problem for me. New smileys for you. Thanks for the 26 favorite points for this cache.

Geocache Description:

ALL THE INFORMATION YOU NEED IS ON SITE. THIS IS AN EASY CACHE.

Built in 1801, the Middlebrook Presbyterian Church was the first meeting house built in Erie County by American Citizens for the worship of God. The first structure, built in one day, was destroyed by fire. A larger bulding was built the following year. Both are long gone now.

I found this area about 20 years ago while hunting. At the time the trees were overgrown and little light reached the ground, therefore there was very little undergrowth. You could see the cemetery stones from the early 1800's all laying broken on the ground. I cleaned and piled up a lot of dropped limbs over the years. A monument was erected about 80 years ago. The crosses must have been put in recently. They weren't there when I first discovered this place.

Be respectful while visiting. These were some of our first citizes. Most were born before we became a nation.
